Advanced Nuclear Materials & Plasma Engineering
- The laboratory conducts research on the irradiation behaviors of reactor materials, the performances evaluation of spent fuel, and the plasma processing of nuclear materials, based on the study of properties and performances on reactor materials such as fuel and cladding. Recently, as nuclear power plants have pursued high burn-up/extended fuel cycle, research has focused on the performance evaluation and the reliability improvement of nuclear fuels and cladding materials.
- Also, decommissioning of nuclear power plant, development of plasma decontamination processing, nuclear fusion materials, and high-energy particle beam shielding mais performed intensively. The major accomplishments include the performance analysis of high burn-up/extended fuel cycle, the development and operation of property DB for nuclear reactor materials, and the development of high-temperature low-weight materials for neutron shielding and plasma decontamination technology for metallic radioactive wastes.
- Recently, research has been performed on the reliability code for nuclear fuel damage analysis, performance evaluations of high burn-up nuclear fuels, dry storage of spent nuclear fuels, metallic fuels for the next generation nuclear reactor, developments of once-through automation embedded plasma decontamination, low-weight high-performance shielding materials and development of technology and regulatory policy for decontamination and decommissioning of nuclear power plant.
